Turning your FreshTomato router into a switch or Access Point (AP) is easy. The difference between using your router as a switch and using it as an Access Point involves only making use of the wireless interfaces while using it as a switch. In other words, first configure the router as a switch, then enable access point functionality in the /Basic/Network menu.

The following steps will configure your router as a switch.

In the /Basic/Network menu:

• Set the “Type” menu for all WANs to “Disable”.
• Under the LAN section, assign the router an IP address
  in the same subnet as the gateway router and
  outside the DHCP range (e.g. 192.168.1.2).
• Uncheck “DHCP” to disable it.
• Set the gateway and DNS addresses to match
  the address of your gateway router. In this case, 192.168.1.1.

Now, in the /Advanced/VLAN menu:

• Add WAN port to LAN

Connect an Ethernet cable to into any LAN ports on both routers. This will create a LAN-to-LAN connection. On the router acting as a switch, you can connect the cable to the WAN port, if that port has as been reassigned to the LAN bridge.

On both routers, make sure every port is assigned to the same bridge (e.g. “br0”) in the /Advanced/VLAN menu.

First, configure your router as a switch using the instructions above. Then, in the /Basic/Network menu, simply add an Access Point as you normally would. Additional APs can be added as virtual interfaces in the /Advanced/Virtual Wireless menu. Ensure all ports and all wireless interfaces are assigned to the same bridge (e.g. br0) in /Advanced/VLAN menu.
